Fireworks and Loud Noises

Tips to keep your pet safe during fireworks and loud noises like these from Denver Animal Shelter are common:

• DON’T take your pet to firework displays or leave your pet in the car at a fireworks show. In addition, opened windows do not provide sufficient air. Never leave your pets alone in your car.

• DO keep your pets indoors at home in a sheltered, quiet area. Some animals can become destructive when frightened, so be sure that you’ve removed any fragile items. Also leave a television or radio playing at normal volume to keep them company.

• DO provide a safe “escape” place. Pets will seek out a small den-like place, such as a crate, if they are fearful or stressed. It is recommended to create that safe place and familiarize your pet with it before needed, to reduce stress during fireworks.

• DON’T leave pets outside unattended, even in a fenced yard or on a chain. Pets who normally wouldn’t leave the yard may escape and become lost, or become entangled in their chain, risking injury or death.

• DO use a leash or carrier. If you must be outside with your pet, keep the pet on a leash or in carrier.

Another tip that’s often overlooked is how do you feel about fireworks and loud noises? Do they rattle you? Do you get anxious when your dog does?

Before Embody Lightbody(TM) I ran a transformation business using sled dogs as our teachers. What I learned in my 30 plus years with dogs is they feed greatly off how we feel. If we are even a tad bit anxious or nervous they will express that too in a much larger fashion. You might not even notice you are feeling jumpy and your pet will.

Here’s a recording of a 4 minute meditation to help clear your fields so you can feel more calm and present. Give it a try and let me know how it works for you and as a result how your pet handles this year’s celebration noise. Lightbody Clearing Tools
